Rankings:
• 247Composite: 24
• 247Sport: 25
• ESPN: 32nd
• Rivals: 32nd
• On3: 27
Hood-Schifino made official visits to Indiana, Tennessee and Georgetown in June, as well as an unofficial visit to Wake Forest. Originally an engagement from Pittsburgh, Hood-Schifino chose to reopen the recruiting process in July 2020.
Indiana’s new coaching staff quickly made him a priority in March and followed him diligently during the April and July evaluation periods. That persistence paid off Tuesday with a commitment to the Hoosiers. Hood-Schifino had a strong July, but cut it short after testing positive for COVID-19 at the Peach Jam in North Augusta, South Carolina.

Scouting Notes
Eric Bossi from 247Sports:
A physical goalkeeper capable of playing all three perimeter positions, Hood-Schifino is one of the best two-way players in the country. He makes winning plays as a goalscorer or distributor when he has the ball in his hands and on the defensive side, his tenacity and high IQ make him one of the best perimeter defenders in the class of 2022.
Jamie Shaw from Rivals:
Hood-Schifino looked at ease as well as being aggressive in the search for his shot. The solid 6-foot-6 point guard finished with 19 points, six assists and three nightcap steals against Team Durant. Hood-Schifino finished with an assortment of pull-ups and dabs of paint using his solid frame and great understanding of rhythm.
Travis Branham of 247Sports:
Schifino has a very good size and physical tools for the job and his frame has filled up well as he has continued to mature since our last sightings of him.
He impacts play both on and off the ball given his innate ability to function both as a scorer and as a facilitator. As a goalscorer Schifino connected on several midrange pull-ups and as a facilitator he had the most impact in the pick-and-roll.
Montverde coach Kevin Boyle:
“He’s an excellent player and leader. I think he’s the best ball defender in the country and has become exceptional at making decisions using a ball screen. He will immediately have an impact on winning wherever he goes.
Phenom Hoop Report:
Where there has always been skill and IQ, Hood-Schifino performed with incredible confidence and a loose nature. Hood-Schifino already has a framework ready for college. He plays the game at a steady pace, he is never in a rush and sees the ground at a high level.
In January, Hood-Schifino aggressively sought to score the ball. By touching the paint, he showed all his arsenal, at each level. Playing on two feet, he finished on the rim and flipped the pull up. He even featured a soft touch of 3. The Team USA guest star is clearly on the rise.
He is a good speaking young man, very polite, very cordial and says all the right things when interviewed or even when speaking with him, Polish is a good word used to describe his behavior.
Roster Fit and other information
Indiana’s guard play has been substandard in recent seasons, but Mike Woodson and the UI staff have already started to change that. During the 2021 recruiting cycle, Woodson was able to nab Tamar Bates after Shaka Smart left Texas and now the Hoosiers have once again benefited from a disengagement situation during the Hood-Schifino landing.
While recruiting is generally a ‘everyone on deck’ situation, Hood-Schifino spoke about his strong relationship with assistant coach Kenya Hunter and there is no doubt that this relationship has been a major factor in this. decision.
Considering his size, physique and prowess as a defender, Hood-Schifino should be a major minutes contender from day one at Bloomington. At this point, however, it’s unclear who its competition will be for a few minutes next fall. The COVID-19 pandemic has allowed an additional year of eligibility and it is not clear whether guys like Parker Stewart, Rob Phinisee and Xavier Johnson hope to take advantage of it.
Indiana’s 2022 class now has three members and Hood-Schifino is clearly the centerpiece of its national ranking. One of the notable developments here is that in Bates and Hood-Schifino, new Indiana staff have been able to move out of their original catchment areas to land a much-coveted prospect.
Archie Miller was certainly successful in recruiting in Indiana state and toppled five-star goalie Romeo Langford, but his inability to land prospects out of state was a major weakness. With Woodson’s NBA pedigree and a coaching staff with ties across the country to Dane Fife, Hunter and Yasir Rosemond, Indiana has already entered two of the nation’s most visible basketball prep schools to clinch. commitments. Hood-Schifino plays at Montverde Academy and the Hoosiers have managed to remove Bates from IMG Academy, also in Florida.
With three pledges in hand for the 2022 class, Indiana can now focus on recruiting Dorman (SC) forward Noah Clowney, who will be on campus this weekend for an official visit. Given the unknowns over potential returnees and the prospect of adding an impact player next spring to the transfer portal, Indiana is unlikely to want to sign more than four high school players in the fall for this class.
