Cleco has released a midday update on its repair efforts after Tropical Storm Barry on the state in the past 24 hours.

According to a public service press release, about 52,000 customers still do not have electricity on Sunday afternoon. Of these, more than half – 26,849 – are in the parish of Iberia. St. Mary's Parish represents the lion's share of the rest, with 16,487.

The total number of out-of-service clients throughout the state for Cleco decreased from 57,000 to Sunday morning, mainly in the parishes of Avoyelles, Rapids, Évangeline. and St. Landry.

"As we re-establish power when conditions permit, Barry continues to cause further breakdowns," said James Lass, General Manager of Distribution Operations and Emergency Management. "In addition, Cleco's teams are damaged by our system, including fallen cables, broken poles and damage to transmission structures."
