The position of Clemson coach Dabo Swinney that teams playing only six games should be excluded from college football playoffs – and the Ohio State ranking 11th in its latest poll coaches – made numerous billboards for the Buckeyes ahead of Friday night’s game.
After Clemson’s 49-28 loss to Ohio State, Swinney came under fire on social media before the clock even hit triple zero.
LeBron James, a native of Ohio, of the Los Angeles Lakers was among the critics, blaming the coach for his low ranking.

Swinney told reporters after the game he had no regrets about putting Ohio state where he had.
“I don’t regret any of this, and the polls have nothing to do with motivation. Both teams were very motivated to play,” he said via ESPN.
“It’s a great team. [The ranking] had nothing to do with the state of Ohio. I said they were good enough to beat us, good enough to win the whole dang thing. But I didn’t think of anyone who hadn’t played at least nine games in my poll that I wasn’t going to put them in the top 10. So I wasn’t going to change that just because there was a luck we could play them. So I have no regrets about this. The only thing I regret is not having done a good enough job preparing my team. “
OHIO STATE ROUTS CLEMSON IN SUGAR BOWL, WILL PLAY ALABAMA IN NATIONAL TITLE GAME
Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields, who had six touchdown passes, did not touch the question immediately after the game. His team-mate tight end Jeremy Ruckert said it didn’t motivate them more than the game itself, but it made the win a bit sweeter.
“Everything motivates you, whether it’s what they say or what we say,” he says. “It’s the biggest step in college football. If that doesn’t motivate you, I don’t know what you are doing here. We certainly heard what he was saying and used it as motivation, but the scene, the platform of the playoffs and the chance to move on is the motivation itself. We just have to keep that energy going. “
