CLEVELAND, Ohio – Quicken Loans Arena has a new name. According to several sources who spoke at cleveland.com, the name will officially change to Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse at an announcement on Tuesday afternoon.
With the windows on the outside, renovations to the new arena should give the appearance of a country house, which, according to the organization, will perfectly match the name change.
A press release issued Monday by the Cleveland Cavaliers announced a "major announcement": the Cavaliers, Cleveland City and Cuyahoga County officials should all be present at the revelation.
Cavs owner Dan Gilbert, General Manager of Quicken Loans, Jay Farner, Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, County Manager Armond Budish, and Cavs General Manager Len Komoroski and General Manager Koby Altman, will be present.
The Cavs will play their last home game of the season Tuesday night against the Charlotte Hornets.
When the arena opened in 1994, it was known as the "Gund Arena," named Gordon Gund, former owner of the Cavaliers, after paying the naming rights. In 2005, the name was renamed Quicken Loans Arena, named after Dan Gilbert's company, Quicken Loans, the retail mortgage lender. He was affectionately called "the Q." He will now become Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, named after the Quicken Loans subsidiary.
