The Cleveland Indians will NOT allow fans to wear headdresses or mimic Native American face paint at Progressive Field this season … the team officially banned all of that on Wednesday.
The club – which reopen to fans in matches in 2021 – say it’s all part of a team effort to eliminate cultural appropriation at its stadium.
In the announcement, Indian officials said violations of the new rules could result in expulsion or a direct denial of entry into the games.
As we previously reported, the Kansas City Chiefs issued a similar ban on headdresses and face paint during their games at Arrowhead Stadium in 2020.
The Cleveland baseball team is also in the process of change the name of your team – similar to the Washington NFL team separate ways with his long-standing nickname last year.
The Indians – who wiped out the Chief Wahoo’s offensive logo of his uniforms in 2019 and opted for a C-block emblem instead – let’s say the change could happen as early as season 2022.
Cleveland begins its season against the Tigers on Thursday … with its home opener against the Kansas City Royals scheduled for Monday.
