CLEVELAND, Ohio – Jed Lowrie did it to the Indians again.
Lowrie hit a three-run homerun with two strikeouts in the eighth inning on Wednesday night to give the As a 6-3 victory over the Indians at Progressive Field. Yes, the Indians have certainly seen it enough.
On July 16, Lowrie hit a two-run homerun on Emmanuel Clase to beat the Indians, 5-4, in the ninth inning at the Coliseum. In Tuesday night’s 4-3 win in 10 innings, he tied the point in eighth and doubled the game-winning goal in 10th.
On Wednesday, he hammered a 2-1 pitch from Trevor Stephan into the right field seats to break a 3-3 tie. The A’s have won five in a row and are a high of 18 games in over 0.500. The Indians fell to 4-7 in August and are two games under 0.500 at 55-57.
“He’s hitting in the middle of the roster for a reason,” interim manager DeMarlo Hale said. “He hits behind an All-Star in Matt Olson. He’s a switch hitter and you have to pick your poison to know which side you want him to hit.
“He has the ability to put the bat on the ball. I thought we threw it hard. We made it swing and miss a few times. It just seems like later in the game he had better hitters against us. “
Lowrie is hitting .333 (6 for 18) with two home runs and eight RBIs against the Indians this season. In his career, he reached 0.183 (35 for 191) with nine home runs and 27 RBIs against them.
Despite the late Oakland rally, right-hander Cal Quantrill completed six or more innings for the sixth time in his last seven starts. In those six starts, he’s allowed three runs or less each time.
He started seventh with a 2-0 lead, but Lowrie greeted him with a walk and Yan Gomes picked him third. Bryan Shaw relieved and his head collapsed.

The Indians lost outfielder Harold Ramirez to a right knee injury earlier in the game. Not only did Rookie Sandlin (1-1) left the game with an injury, he was charged with the loss and a missed save.

Quantrill rebounded from a slow start Wednesday night, but his teammates, who are paid to hit baseball, took a different route for the second night in a row.

The Indians took a 2-0 lead in the first as Bradley Zimmer scored on a Lowrie throwing error and Harold Ramirez delivered Franmil Reyes with a two-out single for a 2-0 lead. Ramirez entered the game with a score of 0.373 (22 for 59) with runners in scoring position and he supplemented those numbers with a single tough from Montas in center field.

Zimmer moved up to second when Jose Ramirez walked in. He scored when Reyes sank into a forced play in second place. Lowrie’s stint first passed Matt Olson as Zimmer was rewarded with the knockdown.
