Paramount Pictures has released a trailer for its upcoming live-action adaptation of “Clifford the Big Red Dog” based on the beloved children’s books.
“This holiday season, we are thankful for the pets whose love has helped us through the year,” the trailer begins. “But next year, get ready to love even bigger.”
On Wednesday, fans were quick to criticize the CGI dog’s bizarre look and why it was that particular shade of red.
“It’s not Clifford, it’s a dog covered in blood,” a Twitter user wrote.

“Why these movie studios never learn, photo-realistic adaptations are NOT the way to go”, another highlighted.
Someone else called Clifford in the “disturbing” trailer while another asked, “Why don’t you just keep Clifford a cartoon! ?? This dog looks scary as hell.”
“I’m not shocked by Clifford’s design like everyone else seems to be, but I think maybe it was a mistake to give it the exact shade of tomato-juice-red that makes it feel like for being recently skunked ” reasoned person.
“You know how you set the sound priority, you might want to do the same here,” suggested someone else.
“I don’t hate it, but the fur looks too artificial,” tweeted another. “I know a bright red dog isn’t exactly ‘natural’, but it looks fair. The coloring does not look good. “

“Clifford” is directed by Walt Becker and stars Darby Camp as middle school student Emily, who meets a magical animal rescuer (John Cleese) who presents him with the Red Labrador puppy. Soon the puppy becomes a 10 foot tall dog and chaos ensues.
Paramount is the same studio that had the drama surrounding the appearance of Sonic the Hedgehog.
His initial conception of the cartoon shocked so many fans that Paramount delayed the film’s release and had to recreate the CGI character.
