EXCLUSIVE: Paramount Pictures has slammed the September 17 release of its CGI / live-action feature film Clifford the big red dog on the concerns of the delta variant. The movie is over and there is good early follow-up (in the 90s), however, with families feeling less likely to go to the movies, Paramount is looking for a new release date in the US. Paramount thinks they have a winner with Clifford, but only if the children can safely go to the multiplex.
There was rumor that the studio was pushing the film back for a week until September 22, however, they messed it up completely. Clifford was announced during a gala presentation at the Toronto Film Festival in September. The Canadian rights to the title are held by eOne, which was to take Clifford at TIFF. However, as of tonight, it’s unclear if he would still be featured there. There is no mention of the film on the festival site. Directed by Walt Becker, Clifford the big red dog stars Darby Camp as Emily Elizabeth, a college girl who meets a magical animal rescuer (John Cleese) who gives her a little red puppy. She never planned to wake up to find a giant 10ft dog in her tiny New York apartment. While her single mom (Sienna Guillory) is away on a business trip, Emily, Clifford and her fun but impulsive uncle Casey (Jack Whitehall) embark on an adventure.
