Clifford is back – but the internet won’t throw him a bone.
Just shy of Thanksgiving, Paramount released a spooky trailer for “Clifford the Big Red Dog,” a live-action adaptation of the beloved children’s book series.
“This holiday season, we are thankful for the pets whose love has helped us through the year,” the trailer begins. “But next year, get ready to love even bigger.”
Paramount – the same studio behind Sonic the Hedgehog’s infamous nightmare-fuel design – has been torn up online for the Crimson Pup’s new CGI look.
“Show. Is it CGI or are you just painting a dog red without its consent? Twitter barked.
“Why these movie studios never learn, photo-realistic adaptations are NOT the way to go”, another rang.
The plot of the film will follow the adventures of Emily Elizabeth, played by Darby Camp, after meeting a magician – played by John Cleese – who first gave her the huge dog, the Wrap reported.
The first book “Clifford”, written by Norman Bridwell, burst in 1963 and has since become a mainstay of elementary school libraries.
“Clifford” doesn’t have an official release date, but it is slated to hit theaters in 2021.
