Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg is one of four people to win the Right Livelihood Award, also known as the "Alternative Nobel".
The foundation of the award said Wednesday that Thunberg was recognized "for having inspired and amplified political demands for urgent climate action reflecting scientific facts".

An awards ceremony is scheduled in Stockholm on December 4, six days before the Nobel Prize ceremony.
The Thunberg campaign began on August 20, 2018, when it staged solitary demonstrations in front of the Swedish parliament, skipping classes once a week to protest climate change. His solo protest inspired millions of people around the world to hold demonstrations calling on leaders to fight global warming.
