Clint Eastwood redefines machismo in the trailer for his upcoming movie “Cry Macho”, which hits theaters and airs on HBO Max on September 17th.
Eastwood, 91, directed the film and plays Mike Milo, a former rodeo star and failed horse breeder who agrees to bring back his former boss’s young son, Rafo (Eduardo Minett), from Mexico. On their return trip to Texas, the couple take back roads and encounter unexpected challenges, as Mike forms an unlikely bond with Rafo and develops his own sense of redemption.
“This macho thing is overrated,” Eastwood says in the trailer. “Just people who try to be macho to show they have courage. That’s pretty much all they finish.
“Cry Macho” also stars Natalia Traven as Marta and Dwight Yoakam as Mike’s former employer Howard Polk. The cast also includes Fernanda Urrejola as Leta and Horacio Garcia-Rojas as Aurelio.
“This is about a man who has gone through difficult times in his life and then, unexpectedly, another challenge comes to the fore,” Eastwood told Entertainment Weekly. “Normally he never would, but he’s a man of his word. He follows. And it starts all over again.
Nick Schenk and N. Richard Nash wrote the screenplay based on Nash’s novel. David M. Bernstein is executive producer, with Eastwood, Albert S. Ruddy, Tim Moore and Jessica Meier as producers. The film, shown both in theaters and on HBO Max on the ad-free plan, will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
