Clint eastwood could see a LOT of green soon… he just received nearly $ 6.1 million in his lawsuit against CBD retailers.
The legendary actor – and the Eastwood-run company that owns the rights to his image, Garrapata – just got a $ 6.1 million default judgment after the companies he sued failed to respond to his legal action.
You will recall, Eastwood and Garrapata argued that a Lithuanian CBD company falsely made it appear as though it endorsed their products and illegally attempted to take advantage of its name, likeness, and goodwill. In addition to the damage, CBD retailers were also permanently barred from using Clint’s name and image in the future.
As we reported … Clint sued in July 2020 after claiming that several CBD retailers pimped their products using fake interviews with him where he spurts weed merch.
The lawsuit claimed that the CBD company gave the impression that Clint had endorsed the CBD products on the “Today” show. The company took a photo of an actual interview Clint did on the show and posted words that appeared to be an endorsement.
Clint made it clear in his pair of lawsuits – he never met any of these companies, and in no way endorsed their products.
He also accused companies of defaming him with their lies to trick customers into thinking he was in bed on CBD products. Although the judge said the ads were not defamatory on their face, the court found that Eastwood and Garrapata had done enough to prove that the CBD company hijacked its reputation to sell the products.
