COUNTY OF TUNICA, Miss. – Penn National Gaming Inc. has announced its intention to close a casino in Tunica.
The company operates the Resorts Casino, the 1st Jackpot (formerly known as Bally's Casino) and the Hollywood Casino in Tunica.
Business Wire officials told FOX13 that Resorts Casino would close on June 30, 2019, subject to regulatory approval.
Employees received a letter on Tuesday about the closure.

Part of the letter reads: "Know that this decision is difficult to make. We appreciate the service of every member of the resort team over the past 25 years. Many memories have been created with team members and customers. We appreciate your continued service and support during this time. "
Al Britton, Penn National's Senior Vice President of Regional Operations, also made a statement to Business Wire –
"With our acquisition of Resorts Casino as part of the real estate transaction, we knew we were acquiring an aging barge in need of significant capital improvements … while we have made every effort to maintain the profitability of the property. Real estate in the last two years, increased competition The recent expansion of the Arkansas games continues to drive down the activity volumes of the property. After exploring all viable alternatives, we have the difficult decision to close the business … I want to thank the 200 or so members of the property team for their hard work, loyalty and commitment to this property for a prolonged period of very difficult operating conditions. We will be looking for opportunities for these team members in our other two properties in Tunica, other resorts in the region or one of our 39 other properties across the country. I would like to point out that, despite this decision, Penn National remains committed to the Tunica market and continues to focus on the ongoing operations on our last two properties in Tunica. "
In the letter to employees, Penn National Gaming said that only the "Casino Resorts" would close. Operations in the other two stations do not stop.
Only one of the three casinos belonging to the company closes its doors.
