Clubhouse announces acceleration program for creators on its platform

At the weekly Clubhouse Town Hall Sunday, CEO Paul Davison announced the first voice chat app creation program. Clubhouse Creator First will help future hosts and creators of the platform build their audiences, connect with brands and, perhaps most importantly, monetize their shows.

The accelerator will accept 20 creators and the Clubhouse is accepting applications until March 31st.

The Clubhouse celebrates its first anniversary on March 17th and has had the entire inaugural year. Its success, especially among the Silicon Valley VC crowd, spawned several similar voice apps from larger competitors, including Twitter Spaces which was announced late last year, and a similar upcoming voice app reportedly coming from from Facebook.

Davison also told Sunday’s town hall that Clubhouse is embarking on a ‘world tour’, welcoming its first town hall in Italy on Monday. It also added some product features that users requested, including link sharing and language filtering. The app will also no longer require access to users’ phone contacts, now users can invite new people to the platform directly using the person’s phone number. Davison said users can contact the company to remove previously uploaded contacts, and that a tool for users to remove Clubhouse contacts will be available soon.

Even though Clubhouse remains by invitation-only and is still not available on Android devices, in a recent funding round it was valued at $ 1 billion.
