CNN fired three staff for violating company policy by entering the office unvaccinated against COVID-19, Michael Grynbaum of the New York Times and the network’s Oliver Darcy reporting.
CNN has a “zero tolerance policy” for unvaccinated office workers, Grynbaum and Darcy reported, citing a note from CEO Jeff Zucker.
“Last week we learned of three employees who came to the office unvaccinated. All three were fired. Let’s be clear: we have a zero tolerance policy on this,” he added. said the note, by Darcy.
The network is one of several news organizations, including the Washington Post, New York Times, Politico and Insider, that will require staff members to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment or if they want to return work in person.
A CNN representative did not immediately return Insider’s request for comment.

In the same memo, Zucker announced that CNN would delay his mandatory September 7 return to power likely to “mid-October” due to the spate of COVID-19 cases driven by the highly contagious Delta variant, according to Darcy.
“I think it’s fair to say we all feel a mixture of anticipation, anxiety, frustration, confusion and exasperation… I get it,” Zucker wrote in the memo.
The rise in Delta-variant infections, the vast majority of which are among the unvaccinated, has clouded plans to return to the office and prompted many private sector companies to reinstate mask warrants and take a tougher stance in regarding vaccination against COVID-19.
As of Thursday, 70.8% of Americans 18 and older received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, with 60.8% considered to be fully vaccinated, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
