CNN faced a wave of backlash over the weekend for mocking Texas Senator Ted Cruz after his trip to Cancun while sparing Democratic New York Governor Andrew Cuomo despite his nursing home scandal against the coronavirus.

Social media users were quick to call the Liberal Network for snapping photos of the Texas senator with several sarcastic references, as they intentionally glossed over the scandal that had confused the Cuomo administration.

“Yesterday on CNN, Ted Cruz was nicknamed“ Flyin ‘Ted ”and“ Cancun Cruz. “Why don’t they give Andrew Cuomo some clever nicknames?” one Twitter user wrote, suggesting “The Gov Reaper or something.”

Cruz landed in hot water Wednesday night after photos posted on social media showing him and his family flying to Mexico for a vacation, as Texas reeling from deadly winter storms that devastated the state’s electricity grid. Cruz returned to Houston the next day in the midst of the reaction. He later admitted it was a mistake to travel back then, but not until he got the nicknames “Flyin ‘Ted” and “Cancun Cruz” from the Liberal Network.

Governor Cuomo – the older brother of CNN host Chris Cuomo, who has made an unprecedented effort to downplay and shy away from Democratic controversies, was notably absent from the network’s new arsenal of nicknames. The far-left network has given little to no airtime to ongoing developments throughout the pandemic – often giving young Cuomo the freedom to hold friendly and comedic talks with the scandal-ridden governor.

A Twitter user called the network for appearing to take a page from former President Trump’s playbook, after years of dismissing his nicknames as “divisors” and “haters.”

“It seems to me that I remember a guy who gave people clever nicknames that these same people called ‘divisors’ and ‘hateful,’ he wrote.

“How CNN’s Trumpian gave Ted Cruz nicknames,” commented another.

Cuomo’s administration is reportedly under investigation by the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn after critics accused officials of covering up the true number of COVID nursing home deaths in the state. At the start of the pandemic, the governor ordered assisted living centers to accept COVID-positive patients in order to keep hospital beds free.

While Cruz and Cuomo grabbed the unflattering headlines, only one of them dominated coverage during CNN’s prime-time lineups this weekend – and it wasn’t Cuomo.

CNN did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.
