CNN host Chris Cuomo’s reference on Thursday to a little-known former Texas mayor sparked criticism given the plight of his much larger older brother, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, D.
Cuomo tweeted about former Mayor Tim Boyd of Colorado City, Texas, who drew attention this week for scolding “lazy” citizens for not turning to their local government for help during the snowstorm that left huge swathes of the state without electricity.
“Quit or apologize and learn and become a better leader?” Cuomo tweeted.

Cuomo quickly recalled a scandal much closer to home, as the elder Cuomo faces inquiries into his alleged cover-up of coronavirus deaths in nursing homes. He was also accused of threatening a Democratic lawmaker not to do more to contain the political fallout.
Not that Chris Cuomo can tweet about his brother right now, anyway. CNN announced this week that it has reinstated its host’s ban on 9 p.m. ET, covering or interviewing his older brother.

The left-wing network has given little airtime to last year’s developments despite its reversal on its retirement home policy, allowing the younger Cuomo to conduct friendly talks that include family jokes and even comedy. The media generally gushed about Cuomo throughout 2020; At one point, CNN’s Brian Stelter told viewers that he would pass his advice on the hardships on to his own children.
There appears to be some confusion in the media as to whether Boyd resigned following his comments. After criticism spread over his caustic post, Boyd wrote a follow-up saying he supported his first missive, but added that he would choose his words better.

He also said he had already resigned and spoke as a private citizen, but it is not clear when he resigned. The Dallas Morning News reported he was scheduled to lead a town hall meeting as recently as February 9.
