CNN host Chris Cuomo’s role in the sexual harassment scandal plaguing his older brother, Democratic New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, has resulted in a “credibility problem” that only a time machine could solve, according to the Poynter Institute media watchdog.
Tom Jones, Poynter’s media editor, wrote a column: “Don’t blame Chris Cuomo for his brother’s actions. Blame him for his own actions,” who berated the troubled CNN host for his role in the ongoing scandal.
“The problem is that Chris was part of the team that advised Andrew when the allegations that Andrew sexually harassed women came to the public,” Jones wrote.

The namesake “Cuomo Prime Time” apologized to his colleagues and CNN admitted his actions were inappropriate earlier this year, but the Liberal Network never punished or disciplined younger brother Cuomo. Now that the New York Attorney General’s report has shed new light on Chris Cuomo’s role, new calls for CNN to take action have emerged.

“We are talking about serious allegations of sexual harassment,” Jones wrote in May, but noted that it still applied. “What do CNN staff members – especially women – think of a powerful employee who tries to help someone, even their brother, defuse and overcome allegations of disturbing sexual misconduct? What do the women who made these claims think of a high-profile cable news personality trying to help the man accused of such horrific things? What about the citizens of New York?
Jones continued, “And I’ll add now: what about CNN viewers?”
Chris Cuomo has completely ignored the story on his nighttime show since the attorney general’s report revealed his brother sexually harassed several women. The report also states that CNN’s Cuomo made a statement for his older brother and Jones believes the stench will remain in the younger brother.
“It’s not blaming Chris for Andrew’s actions. It’s blaming Chris for Chris’s actions,” Jones wrote. “Counseling his brother is something that’s going to be hard to forget, especially when Chris reports similar accusations against other public figures.”
“The politicians Chris is talking about – Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi and so on – have called for Andrew’s resignation. Could that affect the way Chris covers them? The fact that it’s even a question is a problem for CNN “
Jones wrote a follow-up column titled “This Chris Cuomo story is not going to go away for CNN,” which said the nothing-to-see approach here was not working for the CNN host.
“I won’t go so far as to ask for someone’s job, but CNN is in a bad spot here,” Jones wrote. “The politicians Chris is talking about – Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi and so on – have called for Andrew’s resignation. Could that affect the way Chris covers them? The fact that it’s even a question is a problem for CNN. “

Jones added that Chris Cuomo “will always have a credibility problem among some viewers” and only a time machine could fix it.
