The goal here is to have a discussion of the work of football in Tennessee and how it is viewed in the coaching community, employing a roundtable of college coaches – five in total, three of them being current FBS head coaches, all of whom have at least served as a Power 5. or NFL coordinator – who can speak freely without their names attached to their comments.

But when you do grant that freedom, and when the position in question is opened up due to alleged NCAA violations under the watchfulness of fired coach Jeremy Pruitt, the conversation will inevitably be fraught with cheating. One of the coaches, amid laughter over the rumor of cash distributions in fast food bags, said he had heard of an SEC program that gives out cash “teasers” (like in, more to come) to visiting recruits in parking ticket envelopes on their car windshields; that another has boosters appointed as “governors” of each county in the school’s talent-rich home state to make sure the incentives find young people …
