The coastguard is looking for two firefighters who have disappeared since leaving for a fishing trip to Florida on Friday. Brian McCluney and Justin Walker were last seen on a boat launch at Port Canaveral and reportedly started fishing at the 8A Reef spot.

McCluney's brother, Steve, called the Coast Guard at sunset when the two did not return and said the trip was supposed to be a departure for their dead father's boat.

"Our father died last month. So he left the boat and we tried to solve the problems of the boat to sell, "said Steve.

The Coast Guard reacted immediately by conducting crew searches covering more than 20,000 miles over the weekend, between Port Canaveral and Charleston, South Carolina.

According to McCluney's wife, Stephanie, the boat has already had problems and she thinks a mechanical problem could have made her capsize.

"We know this is happening, this is not the first time the Coast Guard is called or Sea Tow is called," she said. "They have already been there before bringing us back."

Dozens of volunteers, from good Samaritans to firefighters, joined the search, some even leading prayers on the beach.

Stephanie McCluney said that the couple's survival skills in firefighting, as well as the veteran and paramedical backgrounds of her husband's navy, gave her hope of being able to return home safely.

"I am very confident that he will survive and do what is necessary," she said. "And I know that Justin is exactly the same, these are the two most ingenious men I've ever met."

The Coast Guard announced that it would continue its research with the help of partner agencies, adding that it would deploy maritime and air crews to search for men.
