Coast Guard searches for boat bound for Florida with about 20 people on board suspended

The Coast Guard received a report on Tuesday that the 29-foot blue-and-white Mako Cuddy Cabin boat, last known to sail from Bimini in the Bahamas on Monday, did not arrive as planned in Lake Worth, Fla., According to a press release from the Coast Guard. .

Ships and planes from the US Air Force, Coast Guard, Army of the Bahamas and a volunteer group in the Bahamas searched about 17,000 square miles for about 84 hours, the statement said.

“Our hearts and prayers are with the families of the missing,” said Captain Stephen V. Burdian, Coast Guard Seventh District response chief. “I encourage anyone with information about the people on board to contact us as soon as possible.”

The Coast Guard did not release the name of the missing vessel.
