Ralph Macchio is not about to change his loyalty to the hockey of his beloved New York Islanders. But when he saw new Washington Capitals coach Peter Laviolette pay tribute to the show by putting bandanas back in the post-game locker room after a win, Macchio yelled at the coach.
Macchio, of course, is Daniel LaRusso in the hit Karate kid series of films and its spin-off Netflix, Cobra Kai.
“As a big hockey fan this is great! Well done to the coach, ”Macchio wrote in a tweet. “Hoping for a successful and entertaining NHL season this year for everyone! Although my allegiance has not wavered. Let’s go islanders! “
By borrowing from Cobra Kai, Laviolette honored Capitals right winger TJ Oshie and gifted him the first bandana in his post-game speech after his first win behind the Washington bench. Laviolette gave Brenden Dillon a second bandana for being tenacious.
Laviolette’s next job is to convince Macchio to board the Capitals train.
As a big hockey fan this is great! Well done, coach.
Hoping for success and fun @NHL season this year for all! Although my allegiance has not wavered. Let’s go @NYIslanders #NHL #LGI 🥋🏒 https://t.co/Zu0kdCKHN8– Ralph Macchio (@ralphmacchio) January 15, 2021
