Coca-Cola (Japan) Co announced Wednesday that it would start selling a beverage product next week using plastic bottles made entirely from recycled plastic.

This decision comes as beverage companies around the world are increasingly moving towards more sustainable packaging to protect the environment from plastic waste.

Coca-Cola will use the new plastic bottles at the launch of its new Hajime Ryokucha green tea brand, developed in conjunction with retailer Seven & i Holdings Co on Monday.

Coca-Cola will recycle plastic bottles collected at convenience stores and supermarkets operated by Seven & i, which plans to create 1,000 recycling bins each year.

The beverage manufacturer will consider using fully recycled plastic bottles for many of its products.

"To solve the problem of plastic (waste), we need an extensive network of like-minded partners," said Cola-Cola Japan president, Jorge Garduno, at a conference of press.

The Japanese government on Friday set a target of cutting 25% of disposable plastic waste by 2030, as well as the recycling or full reuse of this waste by 2035.
