Call of Duty’s 2022 title, which is said to be known internally as Project Cortez, is slated to be a 2019 Modern Warfare sequel, new leaked reports show.

People on Reddit and the Medium blog noticed the opening of a main server on NVIDIA’s GeForce technology site that allowed users to see hundreds of games tested on their servers.

The roster included many previously announced and revealed games, but also included a variety of unannounced games. Many unannounced games were listed as the name of the internal developer rather than an official name.

The full list of the NVIDIA leak can be found here. NVIDIA confirmed in a follow-up statement that the leaked games were real, but said some were not official game names.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare sequel in 2022?

Call of Duty 2022 Rumor Name: Project Cortez

One of the games on the NVIDIA list is listed as “Project Cortez”. This project is listed as a game released by Activision Blizzard with the developer: Infinity Ward.

Project Cortez is likely the codename for the spiritual successor to Infinity Ward’s highly successful 2019 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Since the NVIDIA leak occurred, new details about the potential plot of Call of Duty 2022 have been shared by VGC.

VGC sources claim that “the sequel to Modern Warfare will feature a campaign involving US special forces waging a covert war against the Colombian drug cartels.”

Information on Game 2022 being a sequel to Modern Warfare 2019 is also supported by Tom Henderson, who has shared specific Call of Duty leaks in the past.

This information also ties in with what Charlie INTEL heard about the 2022 game.

The code name “Cortez” was not used for previous Call of Duty games. Warzone’s codename was Magma, as evidenced by the filenames on the Call of Duty site, and Black Ops Cold War’s was Zeus.

Infinity Ward, unsurprisingly, is most likely the developer of Call of Duty 2022.

Activision has not commented on Infinity Ward’s upcoming project and won’t do so until mid-2022, at the earliest. We will keep you posted on any further development on the potential sequel.
