Raise your hand if you had the Los Angeles Dodgers’ first inning in the NLDS with starting pitcher Julio Urías. Well, it happened, as the bottom of the roster woke up and overpowered the San Francisco Giants on Saturday night to tie this heavyweight fight.
Thwarted by dominant Logan Webb in Game 1, the Dodgers found a rhythm in Game 2, racking up 6 RBIs in the bottom third of the order to claim a 9-2 victory.
Urías, who opened the scoring with that RBI single in the second inning, pitched five one-run innings to secure the victory. Cody Bellinger, who went 2 for 48 against the Giants in a miserable regular season, scored a brace of 2 RBIs in the sixth inning, which gave Los Angeles some breathing space.
The additions of Dodgers superstars in the recent past have helped in other ways, however. As the Giants threatened to come back in sixth, Trea Turner ended a scoring opportunity with a save and a smooth diving flip.
And then Mookie Betts finished the round with an incredibly relaxed dart at 89 mph to take down Wilmer Flores on third base.
The victory sets up a crucial third game on Monday at Dodger Stadium. Max Scherzer is expected to take the hill to LA, with Alex Wood ready to leave for San Francisco.
