Colin Farrell will play in The North Water's survival thriller series on BBC Two

Colin Farrell is preparing to honor our TV screens by joining the new BBC thriller Northern water.

The actor will play the role of a murderer in the BBC Two series, based on Ian McGuire's critically acclaimed novel of the same name.

The synopsis reads as follows: "Located in the United Kingdom and in Arctic pack ice in the late 1850s, Northern water tells the story of Patrick Sumner, a former disgraced army surgeon who engages as the ship's doctor on an Arctic whaling expedition.

"On board, he meets Henry Drax (Farrell), the harpooner, a brutal killer whose amorality was designed to adapt to the harshness of his world.

"In the hope of escaping the horrors of his past, Sumner finds himself in an unfortunate journey with a murderous psychopath.In search of redemption, his story becomes a hard struggle for his survival in the arctic wasteland."

The film is adapted and directed by Andrew Haigh, who directed the 2015 Oscar-nominated film. 45 years oldand start turning in the fall.

Farrell is not the only major player to have signed up for the BBC Two television series recently, with Richard Gere in the upcoming series MotherFatherSon.

Northern water will be broadcast on BBC Two, although no release date has been announced.
