The National Football League may think that it has bought peace in our day by aligning itself with rap mogul Jay-Z and its Roc Nation for various social justice and entertainment initiatives.
But Colin Kaepernick's shadow still hangs over the league and some players listen to his mermaid's calls in pursuit of the protests.
Responding to Jay-Z's comments last week about the league's "kneeling," Kaepernick urged his followers via an Instagram post to "stay strong" and "keep fighting".
Comments were sent to Eric Reid, Carolina Pantheon, as well as Miami Dolphins Kenny Stills and Albert Wilson II, all of whom raised objections as to how the league behaved normally. All three continue to kneel during the National Anthem, a move initiated by Kaepernick while he was playing for the San Francisco 49ers. After leaving the team for free placement, he never played again and won a league settlement for his alleged blackball.
Kaepernick said on Instagram: "My brothers @E_Reid35 @KSTiLLS @iThinkIsee12 continue to fight for the people, even in the face of death threats, "wrote Kaepernick. "They have never gone beyond the people and continue to put their beliefs into practice. Stay strong brothers !!!
Jay-Z's attempt to circumvent the protests was criticized by Kaepernick's girlfriend and television host Nessa Diab and sports journalist Jemele Hill, as well as by many former social media fans.
