College football games canceled, postponed this weekend: COVID-19 protocols nix 15 clashes in week 11

Saturday’s college football game roster will be hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic this season, with 15 games canceled or postponed as the number of coronavirus cases in the country continues to rise. Eight of 10 leagues faced at least one cancellation or postponement as of Friday afternoon, with the SEC topping the list at four.

This week’s number of cancellations and postponements exceeds last week’s total of 10, the highest number so far this season. The growing number comes as all 10 conferences are going on right now, but it also marks a cancellation / postponement of around 30% of games scheduled for the week.

This percentage may end up exceeding the cancellation / postponement percentage posted in mid-September when seven games were canceled or postponed in the third week of the season before all leagues started playing. A total of 63 games have been canceled or postponed this season, with 24.2% of cancellations or postponements coming this week. Here is the full list of Week 11 games that were affected:

The COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent programming adjustments made by each conference had already created a national imbalance in the number of games played from one conference to another. Now this is causing problems within conferences. U.S Conference member Western Kentucky is scheduled to play his ninth game of the season on Saturday, while league counterpart Rice has only played two games – his third game scheduled against Louisiana Tech this week being postponed .

In the Big Ten, many teams prepare for their fourth game of the season this week as Wisconsin hope to play only its second game after COVID-19 issues forced the Badgers to back-to-back cancellations.
