WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana – Scientists from Johns Hopkins and MIT will lead two key departments at Purdue College of Science starting Friday, March 1st.
Janice Evans, a biologist and professor at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, will become the department head of the biological sciences.
Daniel Cziczo, atmospheric chemist and professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will become Head of Department of Earth Sciences, Atmosphere and Planets.

Evans earned his Bachelor of Science degree with Distinction in Biology from Davidson College and his PhD in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research focuses on the biology underlying reproductive processes and has been continuously supported by the National Institutes of Health since 1996. Evans is the first woman to lead the department for over 100 years.

Cziczo holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Illinois. He then obtained a Master of Science degree and a Ph.D. in Geophysical Science from the University of Chicago. His research focuses on improving our understanding of the chemical and physical properties of atmospheric particles and on identifying how these properties affect the environment. While at MIT, Cziczo held the Victor Starr Career Development Chair in Atmospheric Chemistry. Among his many awards are the Presidential Career Award for Scientists and Engineers and an Outstanding Achievement Award from the US Department of Energy.
