At least 10 dead and 70 wounded after a train accident in Turkey

At least 10 people died and more than 70 were injured on Sunday when a train derailed in western Turkey officials said .

The fatal victims were 10 and wounded, 73, said Under Secretary of Health Eyup Gumus, in statements issued by the Anadolu News Agency.

According to local press, the train had departed from Edirne, near the border with Greece, for Istanbul with 360 pbadengers. He derailed in a village in Tekirdag province.

A survivor spoke to the DHA news agency about her ordeal.
"I saw dead people, I saw people who had their legs destroyed, it was something horrible," said the witness, according to the DHA.

Images and videos from the region show the overturned cars and people being transported on stretchers.

Tekirdag Governor Mehmet Ceyhan said that the area where the accident occurred was muddy because of heavy rains and difficult access.

Emergency vehicles and military helicopters arrived at the scene. The neighboring municipality of Corlu tweeted that hospitals in the area needed blood donors.
