The former mayor of Cartagena, Nicolás Curi Vergara, incarcerated in the intermediate care unit of the University Hospital of the Caribbean (HUC), is in a delicate state of health.
Curi, 83, was admitted to the HUC emergency department last Sunday by his family for flu-like illness and tonsillitis. After the medical evaluation, the doctors diagnosed coronary artery obstruction and kidney failure. It was therefore initially directed to intensive care.
His brother, Abraham Curi, said that the state of health of the former mayor had evolved satisfactorily. Yesterday, he was transferred to an intermediate care facility. However, they are waiting for a catheterization proposed by the hospital's medical commission.
"The family members were meeting with the HUC medical committee and we agreed that despite the risks, because of their age, catheterization is an option to eliminate the intense pain in the chest. say the most opportune moment to do it, "said Abraham Curi.
According to his family, Nicolás Curi has always been aware and has maintained the good humor and smile that has always characterized him.
The exmandatario was operated on two occasions. "We have a lot of confidence in the medical staff at the University Hospital and in our center with the best equipment for patient care, and we trust his speedy recovery," said Abraham Curi.

Nicolás Curi was mayor of Cartagena on three occasions, elected by popular vote. His first term was filled from 1 June 1990 to 31 May 1992. He defeated Adalberto "Rayita" Romero of García House at the polls.
During his first term as mayor, he was accepted by the communities through his street paving program, in which residents contributed 40% of the resources and the mayor's office provided the materials and services. specialists.
