At the San José hospital in the municipality of Maicao, doctors took a 28-kilogram tumor from a Venezuelan patient, considered the largest in the country.
Gynecologist Jaime Valera Fernandez explained that the 40-year-old woman lived five years ago with this mbad that covered the entire abdominal region and was also attached to the bladder and the front of the colon.
"It was something unbelievable and unusual because we did not know how he had lived all that time with the tumor in his body, but we were satisfied with the results of the surgery. operation, "said the doctor.
She explained that the patient had been persuaded by a relative to come to Colombia for examination because she had undergone an ultrasound in Venezuela, but the doctors had not offered her a solution.
"When we arrived, we thought it was a pregnancy, but after having an ultrasound, we realized that it was a tumor, so we set up a medical team to remove it, "he said.
The surgery lasted one hour and fifteen minutes and the patient was stable, with antibiotics and badgesics, but also with nutritional support.
"She also enjoys psychological support because she was somewhat disturbed by the conditions in which she was during this entire period," added the doctor.
He said that he had never seen a tumor of this size before. A similar center was removed about five years ago at this health center but weighed 23 kg.
