How can we connect Soviet Union, football, Vicente Fernandez and a series of Netflix?
The answer to a name and a name: Dasahev López Saavedra. But in the art world, he's known as The Dasa.
A series in which he plays, based on his own life and entitled "El Vato", won the Emmy Award last week for the best non-English talk show on American television.
- The old and lucrative Netflix company that has nothing to do with watching videos online
In the series, produced by Telemundo and broadcast by Netflix, the story of a singer is told that he must leave his native Mexico to pursue his artistic dream in the United States.
It's a story similar to Dasahev's – from the legendary Soviet goalkeeper Rinat Dasayev– who, just 20 years old, traveled from Hermosillo, Mexico, to Los Angeles.
In the city of California, he has managed to establish himself thanks to a fundamental work of his artistic life: to be the driver of the popular singer Vicente Fernández.
"One day he called me to the locker room, he listened to me and he invited me to sing with him as a duo," El Dasa told the American newspaper El Nuevo Herald.
Six years after this episode, the series based on his life has managed to win an Emmy.
But how did the street artist of Hermosillo reach the top positions of the Mexican regional music market?
From Dasahev to El Dasa
In Hermosillo, the place where he was born, Dasa was a budding musician grupero I did not have the success I wanted.

Remember how he participated in several music competitions, but he does not succeed in occupying the first places.
So after spending four years singing for a local band, He decided to emigrate to the United States.
"When I went to Los Angeles, obviously, like everyone looking for opportunities, I did not know anyone"He told TVyNovelas magazine.
To regain his life, he became a conductor, first of a television production company, then of the Mexican song king, Vicente Fernández.
But after the musicians of "Chente" asked the star to listen to El Dasa, the legendary artist asked the young man to accompany him on the stage of the Gibson amphitheater to Los Angeles.
They sang a duet "Amor de los dos" and since November 11, 2011, his life has changed forever.
"Mr. Vicente Fernández, as would any father, said: & # 39;HIjo, here are the tools, I already showed you and you fly& # 39;", he reminded for the agency EFE.
He then recorded two albums of regional Mexican music. Finally, in 2016, the NBC owner of the Telemundo chain decided to make a series based on "30% of El Dasa's life," according to the network.
The series called "El Vato". Y The dasa He became his protagonist.
Successful?
The previous week, during the distribution of the International Emmys – award-winning series produced outside the United States or broadcast in a language other than English – "El Vato" was awarded in the category "Best broadcast in prime time other than English ""
"I did not know what were the Emmy Awards before starting to play. Very excited about it, "El Dasa told the media.
However, even though the series is already broadcasting its second season, Everyone does not believe that El Dasa is the most successful artist that television promotes.
"He's a good singer, he's very good, but I do not think he's being exploited as an artist." There are not many shows that he does every yearLos Angeles-based reporter Mariana Gagliardi told BBC Mundo.
"There are other artists like Christian Nodal, that in less time, almost two years, it has increased. He makes concerts everywhere, he came to Colombia, there we see the success, "he added.
So why did El Dasa make his own series and not other artists with a larger projection?
"For many artists who need more promotion, they are called to play where they organize a reality TV-show. I think El Dasa still needs something more to be considered a great singer, "concluded Gagliardi.
