A 52 year old man died Tuesday with his truck on the road that leads from Urabá to Medellín. The driver was greeted by a group of protesters from the truck stop in Chigorodó. A couple of these stones hit him in the chest and caused his death.
The victim of the attack was transferred to the pan-American clinic Apartadó, but arrived lifeless. The cause of the driver's death was recorded as a cardiac arrest.
According to the mayor of Chigorodó, Daniel Álvarez, the incident reportedly occurred during one of the demonstrations of the stop of the trucks in the area. "It was on the road that leads to Medellín, they threw stones at the vehicle, badaulted and, as a result of the impact, the man died from the consequences of a respiratory arrest, a cardiac arrest, "he told the FM.
The fact was not the only case of aggression on the part of the demonstrators, who were allegedly surrounded. The deceased driver was the only victim of these attacks, but about 40 vehicles were stoned.
The Foreign Minister added that a security council will be held in Apartadó. The goal is to reduce aggression against traveling drivers. Images from security cameras will also be badyzed to determine who the perpetrators were.
