The debate on the financing law has reinforced an idea: the imposition of multi-phase VAT on beer and sugary drinks. The proposal would require distributors and traders to charge VAT on the sale of these drinks. The question for many is how much beer would cost if this tribute was approved.
You have to consider differences in the cost of beer. The same drink that costs 2,000 pesos in a shop can cost a lot more in a bar. In addition, note the large number of beers on the market, both mbadive and premium. But, in general, you can expect the cost to increase by 19%.
Blu Radio carried out this study in a shop south of Bogotá. According to the trader, a commercial beer is sold at 2500 pesos. The trader does not pay VAT at the present time, only the producer pays for it. But with the finance law, the trader should pay 19% VAT.
Doing the math, this would imply that the merchant would charge 475 pesos more. "But clearly, I would not charge him for that. at $ 3,000 and from there I do my accounts, "he said.
How much would beer cost with 19% VAT?
If a person wanted to buy a "petaco" of 30 beers, they would have to pay $ 90,000, not the $ 75,000 they currently pay. Similarly, a "six pack" of six beers that costs 13,000 pesos in a chain of stores it would cost $ 15,470.
The proposal aims to raise more than 900,000 million pesos. Despite the support of much of the Senate, several business groups have dismissed it.
