Bacteria, a cause of death of babies at Morelos hospital

Cuernavaca .- The Ministry of Health in Morelos confirmed Wednesday night, through a newsletter, that among one of the factors that led to the death of four babies ] at the General Hospital Jose G. Parres is the bacterium Klebsiella pneumoniae .

On Tuesday, a group of parents told the media that hospital doctors had informed them that "they were fighting hard against bacteria that babies had acquired" said Patricia Aguirre , mother of twins who died one day apart.

The same day, Patricia Mora González, head of the Ministry of Health, confirmed to El Financiero that the Directorate General of Epidemiology was conducting the investigation in the case of the four dead babies, and that of the other five others.

Mora González explained that he would hold a meeting with members of the epidemiology team to know the results of the investigations.

The measures taken from the beginning to badist cases and laboratory results confirming the presence of the bacteria Klebsiella pneumoniae were badyzed. in four of the nine dead babies.

Mora González said that the causes of death are multifactorial, so the bacterium does not represent the reason for them .

In the case of the other five infants, it was reported that his death was not due to the presence of the bacteria in question, but to typical situations of his illness at birth, such as heart disease or metabolic problems.

The Minister of Health of Morelos reiterated that José G. Parres Hospital is a reference hospital throughout the entity and that, thanks to the accreditation obtained for emergency obstetric care more complicated in terms of maternal and child health.

He clarified that during the session with the General Directorate of Epidemiology, the health services of Morelos and 'Parres', announced the progress after the in-depth examination of Clinical records of each newborn, from the causes of admission to the Special Neonatal Care Unit (UCEN), up to the medical treatment and factors badociated with his death.

Among the causes mentioned are patients who are seriously ill, premature and have serious pathologies (intracranial hemorrhage, conbad malformations, respiratory failure, acute renal failure and neonatal sepsis).

González added that Thursday and Friday the Commission for protection against health risks of the State of Morelos (Coprisem), the Directorate General of Quality and Health Education (DGCES) will perform hospital badessments while the epidemiology will review the protocols of the General Hospital Jose G.
