Cardinal Urosa said goodbye to his duties as Archbishop of Caracas

Caracas The Archdiocese of Caracas celebrated a Mbad this Saturday on the occasion of the retirement of the Archbishop of Caracas, Urosa Savino, who held this position in recent years.

During the celebration, the cardinal said that he is retiring as archbishop but does not leave Venezuela and said that he will continue to work "for the defense of the rights of the Venezuelan people."

Urosa, indicated that the situation that he saw the country is the consequence of having left the faith aside.

"Faith when we came and felt it filled us with joy, we are called to serve Christ explicitly," he said.

He led a prayer on behalf of Venezuelans to "resolve our conflicts (in the country) in a peaceful manner".

In this regard, he commented that "the suffering of relatives of political prisoners is heartbreaking".

He congratulated who is now the new Cardinal of Caracas, Baltazar Enrique Porras, stating that "he had a long and very complete career, with total dedication and a great willingness to work for the glory of God."

Mbad, which was in charge of now, the former cardinal, was held at the Church of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá, Florida, at 9:30 this Saturday and counted with the participation of Monsignor Jesús González de Zárate, recently appointed by the Pope as archbishop of Cumaná, the auxiliary bishops of Caracas and the capitalist clergy.

On 9 July, the Vatican Press Office reports that Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of the Archbishop of Caracas, Urosa Savino, on the occasion of his 75th birthday, on which date the prelates have already retired.

Urosa, called on Venezuelans to welcome Porras with "love and respect," as they did during the exercise of their duties .
