Declaring public calamity in San Gil, Santander, after an avalanche

Carlos Iván Márquez explained that in a month the lands that could cause new emergencies would stabilize and he added that in six months the situation that cost the life of an eight year old would be surmounted 19 people more injured.

"The declaration of public calamity was made and a specific action plan to respond during the first month of stabilization and in six months recovery because there was some damage walls , a school that has badignments.So we will develop a specific action plan with the department, the municipality and the nation, "said the national leader.

Colonel Jaime Escobar, commander of the Santander Police Department, added that to serve the affected population three main axes were defined:

"Isolate the area first to avoid new situations, contain and take care of the people affected and prevent others from being affected by similar situations. Initially they were five quarters affected but with the overflow of two streams there was also damage in other areas, "explains the official.

It should be mentioned that 46 municipalities of the Department of Santander continue under public calamity, following heavy rains that damaged roads, houses, crops and wagons.
