The Argentine coach Ricardo Gareca who led the Peruvian team to the World Cup, called Tuesday "the time" to think and decide to renew his contract with the Peruvian Federation of football, after the elimination of his team in the first phase of Russia 2018.
"At the moment, I need time and thought," said Gareca at the first press conference that he has organized since his return from Russia, where the Inca team participated in Group C with Australia, France and Denmark (the latter two being ranked by eighths).
"I will not make any decision until I have the necessary rest," said Gareca, who said he is currently "a free coach," after completing his contract when Peru played his last game in Russia last week.
The Peruvian Football Federation has "priority" to convince Gareca to renew his contract for the Copa America Brazil 2019 and qualifier for the Qatar-2022 World Cup, said last Thursday his sports director, Juan Carlos Oblitas.
Gareca baderted that for the moment "there are no negotiations" with the Federation, "precisely because I need time" for me rest and reflect
"If it must be another four years (in front of Peru) because it" bears a great responsibility, "he said.
He indicated that he had to renew his contract for four years, he would fulfill his contract and not give up even if he received better offers.
The Argentine coach ranked the Inca team at a World Cup after 36 years of absence and returned a gambling identity to compete with any rival.
