With a shared vision to reinterpret photography and visual culture of smartphones, Huawei, in collaboration with the International Center for Photography (ICP), the world's largest institution devoted to photography and other visual arts, managed to gather a pbadionate and respected jury to evaluate the images and videos recorded for the HUAWEI NEXT-IMAGE contest this year
World-renowned photographer Alec Soth joins a jury of creative leaders. from ICP and Leica Galleries International, as well as from a photographer awarded the Pulitzer Prize. As part of the HUAWEI NEXT-IMAGE project, Soth will host an expected masterclbad in photography this year
Magnum Photos' renowned photographer, Alec Soth, draws its roots from the typically American tradition of "road photography". developed by Walker Evans, Robert Frank and Stephen Shore. Soth has received scholarships from the McKnight, Bush and Jerome foundations, as well as the Santa Fe Photography Award 2003. His work is exhibited in major public and private collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco; the Houston Museum of Fine Arts; and the Walker Art Center
The renowned jury of world-renowned professionals and new promises in digital photography includes:
- Mark Lubell Executive Director of the International Center for Photography (ICP)
- ] Liu Heung Shing accomplished photojournalist, Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer and founder of SCôP (Shanghai Photography Center)
- Karin Rehn-Kaufmann artistic director and chief representative of Leica Galleries International
- Li Changzhu Vice President of Huawei Consumer Business Group's mobile phone product line and founder of the HUAWEI NEXT-IMAGE Awards
- Five young Promises and Creative Visuals who are recent graduates of the Huawei Consumer Business Group. ICP School and promising photographers from different countries.
To expand the diversity and depth of the works received, the HUAWEI NEXT-IMAGE 2018 awards and divided into six categories: Goodnight, Face, Hello, Life !, Recording, Chronology, and ] Storyboard . The Good Night category tries to capture funny moments in low light; Hello, life! it is based on sharing the emotion or inspiration that one finds in everyday experiences; Faces aims to experiment with the identity and power of portraiture; Check-In seeks to discover new places and new experiences; Timeline is about shooting video stories in less than 30 seconds; and finally Storyboard asks participants to tell a story in nine images using a series of photos to develop a meaningful or intriguing narrative. Competitors from around the world are invited to present their creative work in all six categories by August 31, 2018.
In November of this year, Huawei will exhibit the winning works of HUAWEI NEXT-IMAGE awards and selections. from the publisher as part of a special photo exhibition at Paris Photo, the first international fair devoted to the photographic medium, which will take place at the iconic Grand Palais, located on the famous Champs Elysees, in the heart of the French capital.
Annual HUAWEI NEXT-IMAGE prices are an important part of Huawei's overall plan to redefine visual expression and culture through more professional and intuitive smartphone cameras. Launched in 2017, these awards offer Huawei smartphone users from around the world a gallery where they can present their best work to an international audience.
The call for the HUAWEI NEXT-IMAGE Awards was launched on June 13th. and photographers from around the world can participate with images or videos captured with Huawei smartphones. The winners will be announced end of September 2018.
