The Bolivar register weightlifter, Mercedes Pérez, has been awarded the gold and silver medal of the 2018 Central American Games respectively in the clean and jerk category, in the category of 69 kg
In the clean and jerk, the weightlifter that represents Bolívar, raised 130 kg and beat the Mexican Ana Torres. Colombian Mari Leivis Sánchez won the bronze medal and finished on the podium.
In the starting mode, Pérez failed to beat compatriot Mari Levis Sánchez and won the silver medal. Mercedes lifted a total weight of 107 kg, while Sanchez, who raised a weight of 108 kg, hung the gold medal and set a South American record.

Mercedes is One of Bolívar's strong cards at the 2019 National Games. Pérez was fourth at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in the 63rd and dreams of winning an Olympic medal in Tokyo 2020.
