One of the giraffes of the biopark Ukumarí died in Pereira

Juan Pablo Gallo, Mayor of the Risaralda capital, confirmed that Perla, the giraffe who arrived at the Ukumarí biopark five months ago, died of a gastrointestinal illness.

"For five days, our beloved Pearl got sick, a team of doctors and veterinarians fought for her health, but with immense pain, I have to share the news that we lost her last night , despite all the efforts, "said Gallo on Facebook.

He also explained that the giraffe was born with a genetic disease discovered during the necropsy on Wednesday morning.

He said the accelerated deterioration of his condition and the death of it are the result of an intestinal stenosis, which causes a narrow extent of the small intestine that affects his nutrition process.

"We are absolutely sorry." For the team, Perla (and her partner) had become like their children, "said the local president.

Regarding the health of Otun, the Mexican also said he was in perfect health and that they had no relatives, there was no possibility that this situation could recur and sadden the Pereirans.

He informed that the Ukumarí biopark would make efforts to find him a new partner.
