Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto will visit Aug. 6 to attend the inauguration of Iván Duque as president of Colombia, the presidential office said in a statement
. On vacation days between July 30 and August 4, during which there will be no public activity, and Monday, August 6, he will travel to Colombia to attend the event.
Duque, from the right-wing democratic center party, will badume the presidency on August 7, after winning the second round of elections against left-winger Gustavo Petro on June 17, with more than 10.3 million votes, or 53.98 % of total votes.
Peña Nieto congratulated Mr. Duque and badured that Mexico would continue to "deepen its strategic relationship" with Colombia.
Colombia and Mexico are, along with Chile and Peru, part of the Pacific Alliance, which this week held a summit in the Mexican resort of Puerto Vallarta, where Peña Nieto coincided with the outgoing Colombian president, Juan Manuel Santos.
Peña Nieto faces his last months of office, since leftist Andres Manuel López Obrador, winner of the Mexican presidential elections of July 1st will take the presidency on December 1st.
