The beginning of the XIII edition of the Fair of the 2 wheels of the Plaza Mayor of Medellín, 48 hours before its opening to the public this Saturday, had for central axis a symbolic act: the signing of the first "Motorcyclist Manifesto" by motorcycle clubs and communities and the "Move Colombia" initiative, led by the country's motorcycle bademblers and the Automotive Industry Chamber of the National Association of Industrialists, Andi.
This was the ideal scenario to insist on finding solutions to put an end to one of the most serious safety problems, such as motorcycle accidents, which cause the highest number of deaths on the streets every year. and the Colombian roads.
The "Biker Manifesto" has several objectives: "protect life, ensure road safety, promote the development of the country and take care of the environment"
It is also a letter of good intentions to change the stigmatization of the motorcyclist by transforming his behavior on the roads through face-to-face campaigns and social networks, with particular emphasis on road safety and respect for standards. This is why its promoters invite motorcyclists to sign this manifesto which is already on the website of the initiative "Move Colombia".
There the motorcyclists badure that it's a community committed to safety, respect and legalityand admit at the same time that there are repressive behaviors of a minority for which they have been stigmatized.
"We want to be part of the solution (…) We are opposed to the motorcycle being used to commit criminal acts and being irresponsibly driving on the roads."
This in the educational part. But what about the safety of motorcycles?
In Colombia, 98% of people sold are motorcycles (less than 200cc) who do not have the advanced technologies needed to make driving safer.
In this sense, Juliana Rico, director of Andi 's Automotive Industry Chamber, confirmed that the process is very advanced, so that all the bikes badembled and sold in Colombia have "no". an ABS braking system. And in about a year, the brands should incorporate automatic headlamps on all their motorcycles, regardless of their displacement.
Another element mentioned in the Motorcyclist's Manifesto is the protection of the environment. At this point, Rico has revealed that at the initiative of bademblers, from 2021, all bicycles will have catalysts and will come with engines that meet the Euro III standard.
