Effective January 1, 2019, Comprehensive Road Traffic Insurance, Soat, will be issued in a single format that will replace printed security paper.

Soat's electronic policy is a document with security features typical of this type of format, with elements to ensure its authenticity, integrity, durability and reliability. It is given to insured persons by the insurer via the citizen's e-mail in PDF format.
The single electronic format is issued with the electronic signature of the corresponding insurer and includes a QR code containing the encrypted vehicle information and the Soat policy. It is generated from the vehicle data stored in the Runt, National Traffic Registry. .
How to confirm the authenticity of the policy?
1 On the Runt's website with the vehicle registration plate and the identification number of the owner, 24 hours after the purchase of the police.
2 Download the free Soat Virtual mobile app via IOS and Android app stores and scan the QR code of the eStrategy. Only an internet connection is required to download and renew the application at least once a month.
3 In www.misoatvirtual.com.co, you need to follow certain steps to read the QR code and verify that the encrypted data matches the one that matches the strategy.
Do not forget that the owner or driver of the vehicle is required to transport the current Soat, whether it be printed or electronic. It must be transported at all times, otherwise a 30-day minimum wage and immobilization of the car will be inflicted if this insurance is not in force.
If you already have a policy issued on security paper, you will no longer need a document or change and you can keep it until it expires, when you will need to renew it in the new format.
The electronic Soat is an important step for insurers as it will allow them to mitigate fraud and fight against tax fraud. In addition, it will be easier for institutions providing health care (PHI) to identify the entity responsible for the payment of care provided to the person affected by a road accident.
