Tasco (Boyacá), the first municipality in the history of Colombia that revokes a mayor

With 1,609 votes in favor of the dismissal of Nelson Javier Castellanos, the municipality reached the threshold of participation necessary to put an end to the mandate of its mayor

For the first time in the history of the country, since the figure of the revocation of the term exists, a municipality gets the necessary votes to dismiss the mayor. Here is Tasco (Boyacá), where the citizens went to protest Sunday on the continuity of the mandate of Nelson Javier Castellanos, of the Green Alliance.

The result, after being informed 100% of the tables, showed that 97.04% (1,609 votes) of citizens voted in favor of the recall. Only 21 people voted for Castellano to remain in power

In this way, Tasco met the requirement to exceed the threshold of participation required, 40% of all valid votes cast on the day of the # 39; election. the election of the mayor, which in this case was 1,382 votes, because the valid votes of election day were 3,455.

" For the first time in history the mechanism of direct recall participation of the mayor of this city has been revoked," wrote Guillermo Rivera, Minister of the Interior , on his Twitter account.

This Sunday, at Tasco, there were also nine draws and 19 unmarked cards. On June 15, the electoral delegate Javier Hernando Suárez Bayona launched the call to the polls for citizens to decide on the future of the mayor of this municipality.

The next step, according to the norm, is that, within 30 days of the date of this vote, elections are again called to select the successor of the dismissed mayor. In Tasco, located just over 100 km from Tunja, capital of the county, live a little over 6,000 people, according to 2015 data.

The same situation did not occur in Sogamoso (Boyacá ), where they were also realized this Sunday to define the revocation of the mandate of the mayor Sandro Condía. There, although the vote in favor of the revocation won with 84.20% of the votes (2,930 votes), the threshold of 22,204 votes was not reached
