"I spent my life covering the war," says Margarita Martínez, the woman behind La Negociación, a documentary that traces the depths of the dialogue on peace between the government of Juan Manuel Santos and the FARC.

It is not new in this area, since it is behind the documentary La Sierra in which he explains how the paramilitary presence in the city of Medellín has had an impact on the lives of young people in certain sectors.

He spent years telling what had happened to the El Caguán process as a journalist. So when the negotiations in Havana broke out, he understood that he had to document them.

He obtained archives from the governments of Colombia and Cuba, the FARC, historical sources, filming, interviews and even files from the Democratic Center donated by Álvaro Uribe. Martinez repeatedly asked the former president if he wanted to give his opinion on the band. According to her, the senator politely refused, but always gave him access to the party's visual archives.

Two days before the planned release of the film in the cinemas of Colombia Cinema, a series of trills and criticisms, appeared at the beginning of the Democratic Center and its leader, caused controversy that led the distributor to withdraw or not from the film . of the display panel. This was confirmed during an interview on La W radio.

In response, the hashtag # IREAVerLaNegociación is widely distributed on social networks. Cine Colombia decided to keep the documentary in cinemas during the four days originally set for it.

Martínez spoke with EL COLOMBIANO of the challenge that his work implied because, he confesses, "to record the history of the negotiation between enemies of half a century is one of the most difficult that we can do ".

Is there a time when I thought the agreements would fail?

"I had almost felt that this negotiation was living every day on a tightrope. This was not a moment, but something permanent because it was the fourth attempt with the Farc and for reasons He was always on the edge of the knife of this negotiation, and I know of no political process more difficult than to agree with the one who has done so much for so long. "

But in the middle of everything was different from El Caguán …

"Of course, all of us who were adults in El Caguán knew there was no negotiation there. We knew that there was no planning and that it was not there. Havana, I'm a witness, yes it was, it was not a negotiation of whiskey or between friends, it was a negotiation between enemies exhausted by the war, at the search for means and with all kinds of crimes in addition. "

And how was this tension when the no came?

"It was a blow because, even though last week, there were everywhere signs of strong opposition, when the third newsletter was released, I went to the street." I thought that with that the documentary was closed, but no, we just started another stage, and from that moment a lot of things happened: from the moment the FARC went to the rural areas to the triumph of President Iván Duque . "

After two years, how has your perception of the agreement changed? Indeed, many things have gone from paper to reality.

"It's bittersweet, because on the one hand, we see that a good part of the FARC is incorporated regularly because the government has not complied with the productive projects, because of all the difficulties of slowness, inefficiency and non-compliance. The issue of middle management is also very worrying because in the demobilization of the paramilitaries that I have covered, including that of Medellín, middle managers who have not yet registered are the leaders of all the Bacrim . So, not paying attention to this is extremely serious. For us, it's bad because it's recycling new violence. "

After working on a project as full of reality as The sawHow did you see the impact of implementing agreements on people who have borne the burden of violence for so long?

"I interviewed everyone, for example the Commission of Historians, a lot of the victims who were part of the delegation to Havana and to each of the parties." But I was very surprised by the delegation of victims because it was a beautiful scenario.I had never seen people say as much about what had happened to them.In the beginning, there were doubts, some were victims of one side and others of another, but later, when everyone started to tell their grief, I think that there was a human solidarity of saying "My God, what horror this which has happened "".

After the controversy, is there still the belief that the opposition was an enemy of the Agreement?

"It's just that I'm not convinced, they've said it publicly. There are records over the four years, I'm talking about the facts. They say I say they're "enemies of peace" and no, I am clear that Colombians of all stripes want peace, but the historical reality and proven by all kinds of sources is that the doctor Álvaro Uribe and the democratic center were enemies of this agreement. We can not cover the sun with our hands. "

The documentary is in cinemas from Thursday, November 29 until Sunday, December 2. The first day of the show will be shown only in Oviedo and Bizkaia. But from Friday the 30th, will also be available in Molinos.
