Monsignor Muñoz Pedroza had been bishop of Arauca since 2010 when Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on October 22nd.
The new bishop of Girardot was born in 1958 in the municipality of Ciénaga, Boyacá. In this city, he finished his primary studies. In the school José Ignacio Márquez of Ramiriquí studied high school. In 1978, he entered the Tunja Seminary where he studied philosophy and theology. "He was ordained priest on 24 November 1984, remaining incardinated in the Archdiocese of Tunja," the statement said.
According to the Colombian Episcopal Conference, Muñoz Pedroza "has specialized in Moral Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University (1986 -1988) and in Sex Education at Juan de Castellanos University, and has obtained a doctorate in theology at the Javeriana University of Bogotá in the year 2002.
