The monthly report of the National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane) indicated that, in general, the national unemployment rate was 9.1% in October, up five percentage points from the same month last year, when it stood at 8.6%.

The capital of Nariño (Pasto) was the busiest city at the time of closing with 8.1%; followed by Bucaramanga (8.3%) and Pereira (8.6%), said the Dane in his press release to the media.

Juan Daniel Oviedo, Danish director, told La República that Pasto's good performance was achieved after a 1.5 percentage point reduction compared to August-October of last year.

"This reduction in unemployment is explained by the growth in the occupation of the construction and manufacturing sectors, in particular occupations for own account," he said.

Quibdó, on the other hand, was at the top of the list of cities with the highest unemployment rate in the country. The capital of Chocó closed (August – October) with a figure of 17.9%; followed by Cúcuta (15.9%) and Ibagué (15%).

The entity presented an interesting fact: between October 2017 and October 2018, the employed labor force increased by 16,000 people; however, the unemployed population closed with a growth of 142,000 people.

"It should be noted that between October 2017 and October 2018, the inactive population grew by 342,000 people in the national total," said Dane.
