Colorado Rockies vs. Cincinnati Reds: Weather Updates

[ad_1]

The Colorado Rockies and Cincinnati Reds had the second game of their three-game series at weather-challenged Coors Field in downtown Denver.

Just after the national anthem, the Colorado Rockies announced that the start of the game would be delayed due to lightning in the area. The upper deck, Rockpile and upper roof areas were cleaned due to lightning. Players from both teams returned to the locker room and the ponds sat empty.

Radar showed on the big screen of Colorado that there were a lot of storms around downtown Denver. Despite the lack of rain at Coors Field, the game has been delayed.

The delay put a break in Kyle Freeland's return to the mound for the first time since May 30th. The first 7 starts of the Freeland season and the first 12 starts of the season sparked enough concern for the Rockies to send him to Triple-A state of mind. Freeland was activated before Saturday's game as Pat Valaika was sent back to Triple-A.

Colorado won the first game of the series Friday night, thanks in part to circuits in the eighth round of Daniel Murphy and David Dahl, as well as a good start from Jon Gray. The win kicked off a crucial seven-game homestay match to start the second half of the season, facing the Rockies against the San Francisco Reds and Giants.

Following: Listen to our latest podcast here

18h13 – Crowds continue to filter from the upper areas of Coors Field while lightning delay continues to be in effect.

18h18 – The weather radar indicates a storm moving from south to downtown Denver. Still no rain at Coors Field.

18h21 – The wind has changed slightly. Still no rain or update on the delay.

18h23 – The ground crew did not move to prepare a tarpaulin, but the radar indicates that storms are still developing in the south.

18h26 – Rain music is in full swing at Coors Field, but it is still not raining.

18h31 – Apparently, a little darker here at 20 and Blake. Many dark clouds above.

6:34 pm – The pitch crew prepares the tarp to put on the ground.

18h36 – Fans leave their seats. If we believe the radar, we are preparing for heavy rains here at Coors Field.

18h38 – Thunder, lightning and cooler temperatures suddenly. Uh oh. The tarp is on the ground. I just said that hail could also happen.

6:40 pm – It still does not rain, but the shelf life can be very short. Sandbags pass over the tarpaulin to keep it in place.

18h42 – A lightning bolt drew a few oh and ah from the crowd, slowly returning to the stadium's sheltered areas.

18h44 – Rockies Twitter Account …

18h46 – The reds have completely emptied their desk. No player has left on the field as long as thunder continues to roar.

18h50 – The rain starts to fall to 20 and Blake.

18h51 – And, suddenly, it's a shower.

18h54 – Some fans remain in the stands with an umbrella while heavy rains continue to fall. No hail yet. Car owners are grateful for that.

18h56 – They play "Baby Shark" through the speakers. The portals of hell have opened

19h – And here is what my press neighbor did with her time during the delay …

19h01 – The rain fell and a big flash was seen just past the dashboard.

19:04 – Abundant rain is still falling. The radar shows that there is still a lot of green in downtown Denver.

19:09 – Few changes. Rain, lightning and thunder dominate the evening.

19h14 – One thing to consider is that the Rockies already have a double header with the Giants scheduled for Monday. The last thing they want is to play tomorrow against the Reds for two, since this is the only trip from Cincinnati to Denver.

19h16 – I just have the biggest roar of thunder and the lightning closest to the night.

7:20 pm – Now, 70 minutes after the start time and the rain still falls. Many people are waiting under cover as time passes and the match begins. Still no word on when and if it could be.

19h24 – The radar shows that the storm is back to the south, which means more rain for Coors Field. It could be a very long night.

19:30 – Cue Garth Brooks and The Thunder Rolls. This is exactly what is happening in Blaise and the 20th.

19:35 – The rain seems to calm down a bit but lightning always flashes nearby.

19h42 – Heaven above the heavens with plenty of lightning still in the area. Do not start anytime soon.

19.45 – Wow, very dark beyond the third base. Lightning flashing a lot of time.

19h50 – No movement on the tarpaulin and the rain continues to fall. No update at the start time possible either. Once again, a lot of time in the area.

19:55 – One thought: The Rockies and the Reds are both absent on September 9th. Cincinnati plays in Seattle the next day as Colorado hosts the Cardinals. Maybe an option if tonight does not happen. The rain continues to fall and storms are omnipresent.

20h – Two hours have passed and lightning is now appearing. Many storms are preparing beyond the third base and fields to the left.

20h05 – The crowd sings at the "YMCA". By the way, it's really not fun to stay at the YMCA.

8:08 pm Lightning is just showing now. Wow, amazing show happening beyond the left field.

20h11 – The radar shows again the rain that forms behind the storm. Sigh.

20h17 – The rain has subsided but lightning in the area is still a big problem. That's what started this delay, a reminder.

20h21 – "It was a dark and stormy night at Coors Field …" Beginning of a good story and current state as some fans start to regain their seat. The rain is light but always illuminating.

20h28 – A lone crew member lifts sandbags from the tarp and has become a crowd favorite. It's still raining but maybe a move towards a potential start / opening in the storm?

20h31 – Teams move to lift sandbags while Metallica's "Enter Sandman" plays. Well done, Rockies musician.

20h35 – Looking at the radar, there seems to be an opening to bring down the rain from here and the match begins. However, you do not know what the flash situation will look like.

20h38 – Team members lifted sandbags from the tarpaulin and left. The rain took a little.

20h39 – The Grounds crew comes out of the Rocky Mountain canoe with the arrival of "Do not Stop Believing". Perfect timing again for the Rockies music team. Tarpaulin lifted.
